Herbs For Protection

Nov 9, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

If you have never used plant matter in magic before, I explain in detail in the column Plants, Herbs and Roots for Prosperity the different ways these substances can be practically used in rituals and everyday practice. In brief, the main methods of using plant material to summon protection are: carrying the substance on your person in a locket or a sachet, boiling the herb and sprinkling the residual water around your residence, putting a sprig of it under your bed or pillow, bathing in a distillation of it or burning it as incense. Also with love attracting, just keeping the living plant in your house can help increase your vibrations.

Below I have detailed where an herb can be used for a specific protective purpose.

Ague Weed: A bath in this herb is alleged to banish evil spirits. This herb is also known as Boneset.

Agrimony: Is burned or sprinkled around the house to send bad spirits back to the sender.

Angelica: Worn on the person to protect from evil spirits, however a drawback of this herb is that it also may protect you from opportunities. Used formally in rites of exorcism to get rid of bad spirits. Brew into a tea it and sprinkle in the corners of a house to protect from evil spirits. It is also warn on the person in a locket or sachet for personal protection.

Anise: Stuffed under a pillow it protects from nightmares.

Ash: The branches can be shaken and rattled like a wand to cleanse a place of bad energy.

Asafoetida: Kept in a potpourri or burned for protection.

Bergamot: Usually used for money, but some sources say it can be used for personal protection and to attract good spirits as well.

Borage: Place in an area that is suspicious it is said to make the truth come out or have dishonesty, plots or secrets revealed.

Broom Tops: Boiled in salt water to keep evil spirits and ghosts away.

Caraway: Carry the seeds on your person to protect from disease and ill health. A few seeds in the clothing of a loved one are said to protect your marriage from infidelity.

Carnations: A bouquet of fresh or dried blossoms is said to protect the home and family from rivals and attackers of all sorts.

Camphor: Worn as a balm it is used to ward off physical attack or unwanted advances from others.

Cedar: The boughs or incense are burnt to protect the home from spirits. It also protects those in deep meditation or doing rituals from picking up unwanted energies and astral attack. It is toxic to reptiles and birds, however, so you should be careful using it if you have either as pets.

Coriander: Burn as an incense or wear the seeds on your person to protect against attack. Helps keep friends and lovers from accidents.

Deersbane: Burned to reveal bad energy or tell one the source of bad energy.

Dill: Sprinkle in a corner of a children’s room to protect them from harm.

Elder: A highly protective tree whose branches are burnt or kept in the home to save residents from accidents and attacks of all kinds.

Eucalyptus: Burnt in the home to protect the health from viruses, disease and plagues.

Geranium: Live bouquets, oil and incense are kept in the home to protect the family against attacks of all kinds and also disease. Worn as an oil to protect the health.

Heather: The sprigs are worn on the person or kept in the house to protect from evil spirits and unwanted attentions.

Lavender: Use a fresh bouquet, dried flowers, oil, perfume or incense to protect and shield your person and home from bad vibrations and negative people.

Marjoram: Sprinkled in the house for protection against accidents, burglars and unwanted visitors.

Myrtle: A sprig is kept above the front door for protection.

Motherwort: Burned or kept in sachets or lockets on the person for personal protection.

Pennyroyal: Burned to protect against domestic abuse and violence in the home.

Pine: A wreath of pine protects from bad spirits and attracts good spirits. The incense clears spaces of bad vibrations.

Snakeroot: Used to banish a person or thing from a home.

Rue: Rue Candles are burned for protection and the herb is burned to rid a space of bad thought forms and malevolent energies.

Slippery Elm: Place the herb in the place where you wish to get rid of slander or gossip. It may also be burned while sending bad thoughts back to the sender.

Vetivert: Wear the oil to protect yourself when you go out in dangerous or iffy situations.

Aromatherapy

Nov 8, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

What is aromatherapy? Used for centuries, aromatherapy is known to have been utilized by the Egyptian physician, Imhotep; and Hippocrates. The first person to dub the term “aromatherapy, was French chemist, Rene-Mauric Gattefosse during the 1930s.

Aroma-generating oils are extracted from specific plants to be used therapeutically. Alcohol, oil or lotion is combined with these extracted oils to create the aromatherapy effect. Aromatherapy is when these formulated aromas are then massaged into the skin, inhaled through air disbursement, or poured into bath water for a soothing, calming effect.

Aromatherapy is also utilized for a wide variety of therapeutic treatments including physical and mental conditions, burns, infections, depression, sleep deprivation and high blood pressure.

Although there is little scientific evidence to support claims that aromatherapy is effective in the prevention or remedy of illness, aromatherapy supporters believe the oils encourage stress relief and self-healing. Persons with chronic illnesses or diseases should first consult their health professional before using aromatherapy as some side effects may occur.

Aromatherapy is used in massage, bodywork and other natural healing arts’ modalities; as well as in alternative instructional settings. Known for its aromatic healing abilities, aromatherapy is a natural way to compliment the body’s own self-healing capabilities.

Constipation Relief With Fruits Part III

Nov 7, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

Here’s another group of fruits that you can use to get constipation relief. Use these every day for desert or in between meal. Use more than normal to get rid of constipation.

Figs and Dates

Figs are high in fiber and can provide a gentle action on your colon when you have been constipated. This action can take about 24 hours before it takes place. Figs aid in digestion and provide a high level of fiber and minerals, They also provide a natural source of serotonin.

The use of figs and dates combined can have a stronger action on your colon. Here’s a source for fig syrup that I found: http://www.baar.com/figsyrup.htm

Grapes

Grapes have a good laxative action. Eat 1-2 lbs of grapes though out the day and reduce the amount of food you eat during the day. Eat more vegetables and other fruits. Reduce the amount of processed foods you eat.

Grapes are high in vitamins and minerals. They have good fiber content and are especially high in manganese.

Since they are high in sugar, bugs are attracted to them. This causes farmers to spray them with pesticides. Try to find them at the farmers market as organic or not sprayed.

Papaya

Papaya is well known for its enzyme papain. Its minerals help reduce cell waste and eliminate stomach and colon mucus. You can add papaya to your smoothies or eat them in between meals.

Persimmon

Persimmons are as good as apples and maybe even better for your heart. They are high in fiber, minerals - sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron and manganese - and phenolic compounds, which are anti-oxidants. The persimmon skin is also high in fiber but I find the skin hard to eat. You may like it.

Eat 2-3 persimmons each day, if they are available. They help to keep you get constipation relief.

Plums

Fresh plums are filled with minerals and have a mild laxative effect. They can relieve gas and have a cleansing effect on your intestines.

Prunes

Prunes are dried plums. Eat both for their natural laxative effect. Prunes are more effective than plums for constipation. Buy a bag of dried prunes and eat them throughout the day. Aside from this laxative effect, prunes are high in iron.

Raspberries

Raspberries are high in vitamins A and C. They are high in magnesium, calcium, and iron. They are helpful in clearing constipation.

Experiment with the different fruits listed here. Eat them at different times and eat different quantities. Prepare them in different ways or buy them in different forms. Using these fruits consistently will give you constipation relief.

Lingerie Day and Night Support

Nov 6, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

If you haven’t taken a look at the tasteful supportive lingerie lately, you are truly missing out. Intimate support is a secret treasure that women have cherished for hundreds of years, and today is no different.

The evolution of lingerie is here. More and more top designers are now using the best materials available to make their intimates.

The Hour Glass

Years ago, supportive undergarments were designed to make the body look like the famous hour glass shape. Corsets and bustier took a team of assistants to help put it on. To keep the shape, actual bones were inserted into the garment. Strings were used to tighten and tie, allowing the shape to maintain its figure for hours upon hours.

The fashion was designed by a French Queen, who wanted all the women in the court to have a shapely figure. What the Queen wants, the Queen gets. The style didn’t change for quite some time, and it is still important to have the curvy hour glass figure.

Overnight Sensation

Things changed. With the introduction of new fabrics like nylon, polyester, and spandex, the supportive lingerie world changed almost overnight. The synthetic materials had the elastic support that made strings and bones obsolete.

The benefits of the new fabrics were embraced by women around the world. Not only could the garment be worn without help, they were much more inexpensive that the styles of years past.

Today’s Undergarments

Exciting new fabrics continue to be developed and perfected. What becomes of them are the very best intimates the world has ever seen. They are lightweight, comfortable, and supportive.

Bras, bustier, and corsets are staples of women all over the world. They appreciate the support, but the undergarments are also created with a fashion conscious appeal. They are sexy, revealing, and sensual. Getting the most out of today’s hottest lingerie lays in the eyes of the beholder.

Even the most inexpensive intimates are soft to the touch and pleasing to the eye. They provide results in support and in the bedroom.

Shopping for intimates has also changed. Through the marketing power of the internet, women are able to find all the top designers’ wonderful intimates. They are purchased online and more women are enjoying the benefits. There are no trips to the store, and no worries. Just sexy intimate apparel for day or evening wear.

Find Mineral Nutrition Online

Nov 4, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

Mineral nutrition

Searching for mineral nutrition information is much easier today than ever before. I remember when we’d have to search manuals, books and do it at the library and also searching the encyclopedia. Thanks to Senate document 264 the truth finally comes out. Much buried of course as its information doesn’t support the bottom line of retailers. But, to find the truth sometimes takes digging and especially mineral nutrition.

We’ve come to discover that many serious health issues including life threatening can be at the source of lack of minerals in our diet. Most of us haven’t been taught that without these vital nutritional nutrients taking vitamins is useless. Since vitamins are such a large marketing item with plenty of resources we seldom read or see much about anything else.

It is critical to our health to understand that the depleted soils today do not yield its fruits and vegetables with the nutrients they once did years ago. Fast foods haven’t helped either, and now we even read of a national epidemic about overweight child. Our kids are starving from the lack of good nutrition and most of us aren’t doing anything about it.

Research online can be the resource of choice that let’s us do the research work rather easily. Armed with some good up to date education and information goes a long way towards correcting one’s path to optimum health. The responsibility falls on us for self preservation, not the doctors when it’s perhaps too late.

We may also need to adjust our thinking for days of old. Our parents who didn’t have the information available today taught us what they could, but may not in fact be the most effective approach today. When you gather your information you may very well be shocked, so stay open minded and be patient. Correcting the sorry state of affairs with good mineral nutrition isn’t difficult or over expensive.

Men At Risk of Iron Toxicity if They Supplement After WLS

Nov 3, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

While nutritional concerns apply to both genders after gastric bypass weight loss surgery one thing differs: women must supplement iron, and men must not supplement iron.

Men are at risk of iron toxicity if they supplement their diet with iron. According to the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences men should only intake 8 mg of iron a day versus the 18mg women should take daily until they turn 50 and drop daily intake to 8mg.

Iron poisoning, caused by acute ingestion of large quantities of iron-containing supplements, causes nausea, vomiting, damage to the lining of the intestinal tract, shock, and liver failure, and is a leading cause of death among children.

Chronic iron overload, or excessive iron storage, can cause a variety of symptoms including loss of appetite, fatigue, weight loss, headaches, bronze or gray hue to the skin, dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath. It is generally believed that chronic iron toxicity occurs only in people who require regular blood transfusions, take iron supplements, or in those with a genetic iron storage.

Although iron overload is not likely to develop from food sources alone, men, because they do not experience iron losses, may be at greater risk for the problems associated with excessive iron. In recent years, excess iron intake and storage, especially in men, has been implicated as a cause of heart disease and cancer. In addition, iron has been found in increased levels in the joints of people with rheumatoid arthritis.

Moving From Beginner To Intermediate Level Bodybuilding

Nov 2, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

By now you’ve made significant progress in your bodybuilding career. For the past three to six months you’ve learnt how to perform the core lifting exercises in a technically correct manner. You’ve also conditioned the body and developed sufficient core strength to prepare yourself for a whole new level of intensity. Hopefully you’ve also built some rock solid muscle! But that’s only the beginning.

In recent weeks your workouts have probably lost some of their effect so, even though you’re lifting bigger weights, your muscles now need even greater stimulation to generate maximal growth. Don’t expect miracles though - from this point onwards, every little bit of improvement will take even greater and more intensive work than before.

Because you’ll be working your muscles more intensively, they’ll also need more recovery time to adapt and grow and that’s why you’ll be reducing your workouts to three a week. Each primary muscle group trained will now need one full week to recover. After being used to whole body sessions and more workouts per week it may seem as if you’re not doing enough but the point is, you’ll be working your muscles very, very intensively and making better use of your time.

As you gain more experience you’ll be able to tweak or re-design your basic muscle building program to suit your own individual needs, but the program described here should provide a useful starting point. What I’m proposing is basically a 3-split of the body on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

MONDAY (Chest, Triceps, Shoulders)

1. Chest Exercises

Incline dumbbell press - this is a compound exercise that targets the chest but also works the triceps and shoulders to a lesser extent.

Pec-deck flye - this is an isolation exercise that works the pectorals.

2. Triceps

Dips - this compound exercise targets the triceps but also works the chest and shoulders.

3. Shoulders

Front military press - this compound exercise targets shoulders but also works the triceps.

Dumbbell lateral raises - this isolation exercise works the shoulders only.

Bentover dumbbell laterals - this isolation exercise works the rear delts.

WEDNESDAY (Back, Biceps, Forearms)

1. Back

Front lat pulls - compound exercise that targets lats but also works the biceps and mid-back.

Deadlifts - compound exercise that targets the back and quads but also works hamstrings, calves and glutes.

Dumbbell rows - compound exercise that targets mid-back but also works biceps and lats.

Dumbbell shrugs - isolation exercise that works traps.

2. Biceps

Dumbbell biceps curl - isolation exercise that works the biceps.

Dumbbell hammer curls - isolation exercise that works the biceps.

3. Forearms

Barbell wrist curl - isolation exercise that works the forearms.

FRIDAY (Lower Body)

1. Legs

Squats or leg press - compound exercise that targets the quads but also works the hamstrings, calves and glutes.

Leg extension - isolation exercise that works the quads.

Leg curls - isolation exercise that works the hamstrings.

Standing calf raise - isolation exercise that works the gastrocnemius calf muscle.

Seated calf raise - isolation exercise that works the soleus calf muscle.

You could start this program by aiming for two sets of 8-10 reps per exercise but as your strength and size increase you should really introduce techniques that boost the intensity even further. This can be achieved in a number of ways including the use of pre-exhaustion, super sets, partial reps, isometric contractions and forced reps. These techniques are covered in detail elsewhere in this series of articles.

A Forty-Five-Second Meditation

Nov 1, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

Is Meditation Too Much Time And Trouble?

If you haven’t meditated before, you might think it’s too much trouble to learn. If you do meditate, you know it can be difficult to find the time to do it consistently. So is there really a meditation you can learn right now that can be done in 45 seconds? There is.

Three Deep Breaths

Try this: breath through your mouth, and notice how your chest expands; then breath through your nose and you’ll notice how your abdomen goes out more. You see, breathing through the nose causes the diaphram to pull the air to the bottom of your lungs. This delivers a good dose of oxygen into your bloodstream, and into your brain. It also tends to relax you.

This is why meditators breath through their noses. It’s healthier, and it is the basis of this forty-five-second meditation. You simply close your eyes, let go of your thoughts (to the extent possible), and take three slow, deep breaths through your nose, paying attention to your breathing.

The Rest Of The Story

Now, this won’t get you into a deep meditative state, especially if you’ve never meditated before. Is this a reason not to do it? Not at all. You’ll get what you get out of it, and that almost certainly includes a clearer mind and a reduction in stress.

Make it a ritual. For example, each time you get into your car, quietly do your three deep breaths. Having a regular “trigger” like this to remind you will keep you from procrastinating so often that you eventually forget to meditate altogether (isn’t this typical when we don’t make a habit out of the things we want to do?).

Want it to be a deeper experience? There’s nothing wrong with just enjoying the relaxation created by three deep breaths, but you can go further, if you wish. Longer meditation will help, of course, but that isn’t the only way.

If, when you have more time, you learn mindfulness, how to relax more fully, or better ways to let go of distractions in your mind, you can more effectively use that forty-five-seconds. You may even be able to get to that “alpha” state (brain wave frequecy of 8 to 12 hertz) during your short meditation.

Don’t worry if some say this isn’t “real” meditation. We walk before we run, and not everything has to be difficult to be of value. Why not do a forty-five-second meditation right now?

Steve Gillman has meditated and studied meditation for over twenty years. You can visit his website, and subscribe to The Meditation Newsletter at: http://www.TheMeditationSite.com/newsletter.html

Acne Program - Step 10 - Vitamins You Should Be Taking

Oct 31, 2008 Author: Mary-Ann | Filed under: Uncategorized

Vitamins

Here are some of the vitamins and minerals you should be taking to help you get rid of acne.

* B6, 25 - 150 mg in a B vitamin complex

* B5 pantothenic acid, 500 - 1000 mg per day

* Vitamin A (water soluble), 50,000 IU - take just before meals. Taking more than 50,000 IU requires a Doctors approval

* Vitamin C, buffered 1000mg three time a day

* Vitamin E, 400 IU two times a day before meals for a total of 800 IU a day.

A word of caution: Do not take more than 50, 000 unit of vitamin A since it can be toxic at higher levels. If you experience any symptoms with 50,000 vitamin back off to 25,000 units.

Minerals

Here are them most important minerals to take when you have acne.

* Calcium Hydroxyapatite Complex - a tablet after each meal.

* Chromium 200 - 500 ugm or micrograms a day

* Mineral electrolytes

* Zinc gluconate 25 - 60 mg a day (zinc is one of the most important nutrient to add to your diet) Zinc works to reduce the male sex hormone dihyrdrotestosterone (DHT), which in excess will produce acne. Do not take over 100 mg unless you consult with a Doctor.

Word of Caution: After you have gain relief from acne, you can discontinue the use of the above supplements and get back to your normal supplementation program. Continual use of high doses of vitamins and minerals will offset you natural body’s chemical balance and is detrimental to your health in the long run.

Other Supplements

There are seven special supplements that you should consider taking that can help you get rid of acne and to improve your overall health. These supplements will improve your immune system and help to clear and prevent future acne. Look at these supplements and take the one or ones that you feel will give you the most health benefits.

* Oxygen Elements Plus

* Electrolyte Minerals

* Systemic Enzymes

* Digestive enzymes

* Flax Seed Oil

* Lecithin

* Chlorophyll and Lemon

Oxygen Elements Plus (only this nutrient is discussed in this article)

The skin needs plenty of oxygen to keep it clean and free of bacteria. Using a product like Oxygen Elements Plus gives you at least 10-20% more oxygen in your blood. Here’s where to get Oxygen Plus. The plus in this product are added minerals and other nutrients.

Increasing the oxygen in your blood is now a necessity for normal health. Your body needs more oxygen than you presently get from the air you breathe so that your body functions normally.

The amount of oxygen you have in your body that is available to you cells is dependent on many things such as,

* Acid in the body

* Nonfood waste products

* Pathogens in the body

These three items, acid, nonfoods, and pathogens use up your oxygen. The oxygen that is left over is then used for your body’s needs. So the more you have of these three items, the less oxygen you will have to supply your body’s needs. This results in more toxins in the blood and can prevent you having an acne free face.
